Hiking at its Peak!

Parnassus boasts a wealth of incredible fauna and flora and is one of the favorite destinations for Nature lovers from all over Greece.

The routes from Arachova, Agoriani and Amfiklia provide easy access to the main mountain tops and the mountain shelter. From there, reaching all the way up to Gerondovrahos is a matter of 2-3 hours ascent on smooth stony slopes, depending on the pace of the hikers.

To reach Liakoura, you can take the detour from Gerondovrahos following the side of Arnovrissi and down to the ski center of Kelaria. From there you may walk down to a small valley where you come across the road from Fterolaka. At that point you need approximatly and hour to reach the peak of Parnassus mountain.

Another alternative for an ascent is the Koukos peak. Your starting point would be Jerusalem’s Monastery, which can be reached from Davlia. You can walk along the gorge leading to Akrino Nero, and from there, your ascent towards rocky zones would last 2 hours. To reach the top, continue climbing the slope for another 2-3 hours.

One of the most popular routes is the E4 International Trail, a European path which passes through Parnassus National Park. The starting point is at ancient Delphi and follows the old stone path which meanders amongst plateaus and fir forests arriving at Agoriani village approximately in 7 hours.

Parnassus National Park was established in 1938 and it expands at an area of 35 square km, mainly at the western part of the mountain. Many clubs of hikers explore the mountain because of the rich natural profile of the Park, with forests of fir trees, a habitat for wild boar, rare species of birds and mammals, and also rare flora, such as Paeonia Parnassica and the red lily. Of even greater interest are the bare mountain peaks, where most rare and indigenous plants grow, whereas on its southern steep slopes rare species of voracious birds have their nests.
