Arachova
The cosmopolitan winter escape
Parnassus is the ‘heart’ of central Greece (commonly known as Roumeli) and Arachova is her soul.
The village of Arachova extends at an altitude of 800-900 meters and is situated at the location where the ancient cities, Anemoreia and Kyparissos, were once built.
There are several historic buildings and churches in Arachova, such as the neoclassic school building, which Andreas Syngros had constructed in 1910. Today it hosts the Folk Art Museum. The historic road which is made up of 264 marble steps, known as the ‘Egarsios’ Road leads to the historic church of St. George, which was built in 1676, most likely over an ancient sacred location. Another intersting landmark is the rock named ‘Ora’ (‘Time’), which attracts visitors attention before entering Arachova.
Apart from the attractions, Arachova is mainly known for its cosmopolitan profile! Life is enjoyable as the day begins early in the morning with skiers commuting to and from the ski resort filling the cafés and the town square. The intense pace often lasts until the early morning, transferred to the restaurants, bars and clubs.
There is a reason why Arachova is referred to as the ‘Mykonos’ of winter. It is established as the leading cosmopolitan winter destination for both Greeks and foreigners.
